Teeth Whitening

Many things we do on a regular basis can contribute to stained teeth. For example, smoking cigarettes & drinking beverages like coffee, tea, cola & red wine can discolor the teeth. Tooth whitening is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to whiten & brighten the natural tooth enamel, making it an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Because having a bright, luminous smile is the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, Dr. Sowles offers three great options for achieving a whiter smile: Zoom!® One-Hour Professional teeth whitening, whitening strips & take home-custom whitening trays.

Zoom! One-Hour Professional Teeth Whitening

The most popular method for teeth whitening is our Zoom! One-Hour Professional teeth whitening system. Zoom! is safe, effective & very fast, & performed only by a dental professional. Our clinician will apply the Zoom! whitening gel designed to be used specifically with the Zoom! Light. The light & gel work together to gently penetrate your teeth, breaking up the stains & discoloration. During this time, you can relax, watch a movie or listen to music. The gel is applied for three fifteen-minute sessions for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. Finally, you will go home with a brighter, whiter smile.

Whitening Strips

Whitening strips are thin, flexible strips designed to conform to the shape of your teeth, whitening even hard-to-reach areas or crooked teeth. They are easy to use & you can use them nearly anytime & anywhere.

Take-Home Custom Whitening Trays

We also offer an at-home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. This method usually requires two visits. During your first appointment, we’ll take detailed impressions (molds) of your teeth. These will be used to create customized clear plastic trays.

During your second appointment, you will try on the trays & adjustments will be made to ensure a comfortable fit. Your dentist will give you instructions for using the whitening solution. The trays are worn with special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining & desired level of whitening. It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity when whitening your teeth, but this usually subsides shortly after the treatment is complete. Since the whitening solution only works on natural tooth enamel, we will evaluate whether any old fillings or crowns will need to be replaced after whitening is complete so that they match the newly whitened teeth.

Tooth whitening is not permanent & a minor touch-up may be needed every few years.

Dr. Sowles has years of experience in tooth whitening & will help you choose the method that is best for you. We will provide after-care instructions to help you maintain your bright white smile. As always, proper oral hygiene, good eating habits & regular dental visits are recommended following your tooth-whitening procedure.
